With its multitude of lakes, rivers and tarns, and the Solway Coast just outside the national park, the Lake District is the ideal place for fishing, with beautiful scenery to add to the pleasure. A number of different types of fish can be caught including salmon, char, pike and halibut although some areas are becoming over-fished.
Numerous hotels and guest houses offer special packages for the angler staying in the area. Most lakes and tarns owned by the national Trust can be fished provided permits are obtained. For those wishing to improve their skills, fishing courses are available.
Unfortunately fishing like many other activites can have a detrimental effect on the environment. When fishing on rivers please park legally and considerately. Please take your rubbish home with you and don't leave damaged kit and tackle behind. Do not fish without a licence (buy your rod licence online) or trespass on private land.
